Hayek's Bastards - Quinn Slobodian - książka
Producent: Penguin Books
Following the culmination of the Cold War, the ideology of neoliberalism, with its emphasis on market forces and competition, appeared victorious. Communism had fallen, and Friedrich Hayek, a key figure in neoliberal thought, was nearly able to witness its defeat. However, in the years that followed, Hayek’s followers recognized a challenge. Emerging social movements such as civil rights, feminism, and environmentalism were becoming obstacles on the path to individual freedom, fostering a reliance on government intervention, increased public expenditure, and political correctness. This situation necessitated a neoliberal counteraction. In a revealing book, historian Quinn Slobodian examines how, since the 1990s, neoliberal thinkers have sought inspiration in nature to reverse these social progresses, aiming to reinstate a social order based on gender, race, and cultural differences. These thinkers borrowed heavily from scientific disciplines like cognitive psychology and genetics to entrench the notion of ‘competition’ within society and to insist that cultural uniformity is crucial for optimal market performance. They interpreted the works of their intellectual leaders, particularly Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises, to align with racial psychologists, neoconfederates, and ethnonationalists, forming the basis of what is now known as the alt-right."Hayek’s Bastards" asserts that current manifestations of the Far Right, including figures like Javier Milei and Donald Trump, have not risen as adversaries of neoliberalism but rather from within its ranks. Despite their controversial politics, these individuals are not betrayers of the neoliberal cause; they are, in fact, its new standard-bearers.
